Chapters Inc. was formed following the merger of Coles and SmithBooks, then Canada’s two largest bookstore chains. In 1994, Canadian General Capital and Pathfinder Capital purchased SmithBooks from Federal Industries, and later that year acquired Coles from Southam Inc. The strategy was to build a strong base company and use its financial strength to invest in the development of large format book superstores.
In April 1995, the merger of SmithBooks and Coles was finalized, and in November 1995, the new company,
Chapters Inc. opened its first two book superstores and from there grew to become the largest book retailer in Canada, operating bookstores in all provinces, under the names Chapters, Coles, SmithBooks, and World's Biggest Bookstore.

So they fight back by hypnotizing their formidable principal, Mr. Krupp, thereby turning him into a superhero from their own cartoons: Captain Underpants. Before you can cheer “Wedgie Power,” the newly transformed Principal Krupp is flying out the window and tackling crime wherever he find it, intercepting robbers and robots alike. Of course, he needs the help of his creators, who are usually the ones to get Captain Underpants out of his jams and save the planet, as is the situation with the terrible Dr. Diaper. Created in a zany cartoon, flip-book format bound to appeal even if the subject matter isn’t enough to elicit giggles, The Adventures of Captain Underpants is the first in a series from the hugely talented creator of God Bless the Gargoyles , Dav Pilkey . Reader Reviews Average Reader Review: Number of Reviews: 5 1. Hilarious Reviewer: Keshav Bharti from Brampton,Ontario Date: 1/1/2001 1:52:58 PM I think "The Adventures of Captain Underpants" by Dav Pilkey was extremely funny. George and Harold's pranks were really silly but funny. I think that these books are very funny and I would reccomend it to everybody. (Kids) 2. Captain Underpants Reviewer: lrogers from ottawa, ontario Date: 6/26/2000 12:32:04 AM This was the book that brought the reading interest out in my child. It is a silly, good nature comic book but being in a novel format gives the child the feeling of accomplishment. The child will enjoy reading this book out loud which allows for discussion of the humour. 3. Captain Underpants and the attach of the talking t Reviewer: sophia w. abrams from Durham/ONtario Date: 6/24/2000 11:24:41 AM I like this book because I can read it myself, and it's very funny. The two boys write comics, but they don't always spell the words right. The fliporama technique is great! I love Dave Pilky's books. He really understands kids. Sophia, 8 years old. 4. WOW! Reviewer: Tanya from ki Date: 4/29/2000 1:42:02 PM If only we had a hero who flys around in his underpants. George and Harlod have the best adventers. My word to Mr.pickly is KEEP WRIGHTING!!!!! 5.
